Santaolalla wins the 2005 Academy Award for Achievement in music written for motion pictures (Original score)
March 2006
Gustavo Santaolalla received the Academy Award for best original score for Brokeback Mountain. Up against John Williams (Memoirs of a Geisha, Munich), Alberto Iglesias (The Constant Gardener) and Dario Marianelli (Pride And Prejudice), Santaolalla dedicated his award to "todos los Latinos." This award comes on top of the Golden Globe win for "A Love That Will Never Grow Old," which Santaolalla won with co-writer Bernie Taupin in February.

Santaolalla Honoured With Golden Globe, Nominated for Academy Award
February 2006
Gustavo Santaolalla, leader of MRP's Bajofondo Tango Club, was honoured with the 2006 Golden Globe for Best Song. The song A Love That Will Never Grow Old from the film Brokeback Mountain was written by Santaolalla and Bernie Taupin and performed by Emmylou Harris. Santaolalla is also up for an Academy Award for the score from the film.
Santaolalla is anything but a newcomer to film soundtracks. He has composed critically acclaimed scores for The Motorcycle Diaries, North Country, Collateral and 21 Grams among others.
The Argentinian-born composer does not confine himself to film scores, however. He is credited with pushing the boundaries of modern Latin music and helping new Latin music find it's way confidently into worldwide markets. Santaolalla has worked with a diverse list of Latin artists including alternative rap-rockers Molotov and the wildly successful Columbian superstar Juanes. Santaolalla's label Surco has been a springboard for some of the most influential Latin music of the last decade.
